What is Mizzaire?
Mizzaire is a mulit player card game in which players compete to win tricks from one another. At the beginning of each round each player set’s themself a target number of tricks to win and only scores points if they successfully reach their target, however the catch is that not everyone can be right!
History
Mizzaire is a family card game passed down by my grand parents, the game is believed to originate from the Cheltnam area of the United Kingdom in the 1950’s but may pre-date this. It’s exact origins and creator may well have been lost to time.
The name Mizzaire comes from Misere Ouverte from which the game is based. Misere Ouverte is a hand in the game Open Whist in which players aims to lose all tricks, Mizzaire features a similiar hand in round 11 in which players lose points for winning tricks and thus aim to lose them all.
Mizzaire was first passed down to me and my brother in the late 90’s and has been a family favourite card game ever since. After more than 20 years of waiting, the game we know as Mizzaire has
never surfaced online so we have decided to create it, here, and share it with the world.
